Reason #16 to Adopt a Shelter Dog: They have known personalities

If you ever thought shelter dogs were these big question marks, think again! Shelter workers and volunteers get to know the dogs in their care very well. Over the years, I have had the chance to work with more shelter dogs than I can count. And I can still remember so many details about their individual personalities.

Like play group supervisors Choco & Calista. Both were dogs I spent hours with every day during their stay. Choco was like frat boy and Calista was queen of the mean girls. They were both great at dog play in their own ways.

I spent the last few days exploring Austin Pets Alive! where I met CGC Ready Trainee Mr. Jones. Off the top of their heads, several staffers could tell me all about him. His likes, dislikes, training hangups, and how he bounces like a bunny rabbit when called.

Not all shelters are quite as well-staffed as this one. There are plenty of good ones, though. Where shelter workers get to know the dogs like their own. When choosing a new family member, what better place to find one than with family like that?
